The Awakening Mind – Profound Meditations and Contemplations, Antigua, Guatemala

November 25, 2023 @ 9:30 am November 26, 2023 @ 6:00 pm UTC-8

We are pleased to announce that Lama Mark Webber will be teaching and giving commentary on a famous Indian Buddhist text by Nagarjuna, The Bodhicittavivarana—A commentary on the Awakening Mind.

Nagarjuna, a famous Indian Buddhist saint of the 2nd century CE wrote an extraordinarily concise outline for the path of uncovering and familiarizing oneself with the awake and compassionate mind. Though they are very deep instructions, it is gradual, progressive and accessible to all interested practitioners. Within four classes, Lama Mark Webber will bring the text alive and give numerous meditations for discovering or enhancing lucid awakeness—our inherent mind’s nature, the uncontrived and natural meditation.

This is an excellent semi-retreat opportunity; Lama Mark will be available to give personal guidance if requested.

Location:  The classes will be held in an outside setting at Callejon del Burrito #1, Antigua Guatemala.

Dates: November 25-26, 2023.

Classes: 9:30 am & 4:00 pm each day.

Please arrive 15 minutes before each class begins. We encourage everyone to attend all classes as the teachings are progressive.

Lama Mark Webber (Lama Chokyi Gyaltsen) has been studying andteaching Buddha Dharma through the traditions of Buddhism for almost fifty years. His universalist approach is classically founded in Buddhism and a number of meditative traditions while integrating with contemporary life, science and the richness of modern Western culture.

Lama Mark studied and practiced Abhidhamma and the Vipassana method of Mahasi Sayadaw U Sobhana under the guidance of the Insight master Ven. Namgyal Rinpoche and his first teacher Ven. Chorpel Dolma (Mrs. Raff). In 1976, while in a three month Abhidhamma/Insight retreat, Namgyal Rinpoche directed Lama Mark to begin teaching this profound tradition to Rinpoche’s students. Soon after he was directed to give guidance on Vajrayana meditations. From the Ven. Namgyal Rinpoche and other masters such as the late Drikung Lho Ontul Rinpoche, Lama Mark has studied, received, practiced and continues to teach Vajrayana transmissions of the Mahamudra and Dzogchen.

Through clarity, joy and humour, Lama Mark’s emphasis with practitioners and students is on uncovering pure Dharma to reveal its extraordinary benefits and share the great joy of its deep study, meditative practices and integration into all aspects of our lives.

Lama Mark resides on Galiano Island, near Vancouver, BC, Canada, but teaches around the world for much of the year.
