Introduction to Abhidhamma & the Empowerments of the 12 Manjusris

September 28, 2019 @ 9:30 am September 29, 2019 @ 5:00 pm UTC-8

An Invitation from Crystal Mountain Society & Namgyal Choling Gompa

Dates: September 28 & 29th, 2019 – 4 Sessions

Saturday September 28 from 9.30 – 11.30am and 3 – 5pm:

Open to the public. These two introductory talks clarify the purpose and subjects of Abhidhamma (Sanskrit, Abhidharma). Abhidhamma means ‘higher laws’ or ‘higher phenomena.’ It collects and arranges through brief statements all of the key points taught by the Buddha. In addition, it lays out the essential foundations of our ordinary, meditational and transcendent experiences. Whether ethical discernment, states of mind, meditative absorptions, cognitive processes, form and matter, Nirvana and vast interdependence; they are all classified into an elegantly coherent system that allows clearer studies, reflections and meditations. By dissecting the Buddha’s teachings in such a manner, we get to discover what is really behind our concepts of self, other and reality.

Abhidhamma is the basis for all the modern Vipassana practices and traditions. Lama Mark Webber does not emphasize the philosophical aspects. Instead, he illustrates how to use Abhidhamma as a meditation manual of powerful discernment, compassion and wisdom.

The Empowerments of the Twelve Manjusris:

Sunday September 29th at 9:00 am – 12 pm & 3 – 5 pm

Lama Mark is giving this empowerment series as a blessing and strengthener for the participants in the four month Abhidhamma retreat. Lama Mark Webber (Lama Yongdu Chokyi Gyaltsen) has been studying, practicing and teaching Buddha-dharma for over forty years. In 1975-1976, he received a three-month transmission with detailed explanations and meditations from the Venerable Namgyal Rinpoche. During that retreat, Lama-la was directed by his teacher to begin teaching the Abhidhamma.
