SUMMARY:Pilgrimage to Tibet
DESCRIPTION:with H.E. Lho Ratna Rinpoche & Lama Chokyi Gyaltsen (Lama Mark Webber) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTour Dates: September 1st to 17th\, 2024 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nANNOUNCEMENT \n\n\n\nThis is our second pilgrimage to Tibet\, and we are excited to embark on this journey together again! Our previous visit in 2018 was truly extraordinary. In September 2024\, we are returning\, joined by H.E. Lho Ratna Rinpoche\, Lama Chokyi Gyaltsen (Lama Mark Webber)\, and with the valuable support of Sonam Topgyal. \n\n\n\nSonam\, who skillfully coordinated the pilgrimage in 2018\, crafted for us a memorable and seamless trip to China and Tibet\, as well as numerous previous trips to India on behalf of Lama Chokyi Gyaltsen. We are grateful for his continued support in 2024. \n\n\n\nThis pilgrimage holds special significance as we accompany Ratna Rinpoche\, who will be transporting relics from the late Kyabje Lho Ontul Rinpoche’s cremation to his home monastery in Tibet. The journey to Lho Lungkar Gon Monastery promises to be a meritorious activity for all with a heartfelt connection to this precious great Lama. We also aim to support the construction and consecration of a special chorten to house these sacred relics\, contingent upon Rinpoche’s plan and wishes. Lho Lungkar Gon is our primary destination\, it was Lho Ontül Rinpoche’s home Monastery in Tibet\, where H.E. Lho Ratna Rinpoche\, initially recognized by Dzogchen Ganor Rinpoche\, serves as one of the main tulkus of the Monastery. \n\n\n\nAll those wanting to join Ratna Rinpoche and Lama Chokyi Gyaltsen on the pilgrimage to Tibet\, are to express their intent by filling out the application. All applications will be reviewed by Lama Chokyi Gyaltsen or Ratna Rinpoche\, as this is a focused pilgrimage. Upon receiving approval\, applicants will be notified\, and a non-refundable deposit will be required to hold your place.  Please refrain from sending your deposit until we request you to do so. Participants will have the option to select either a $750 USD non-refundable deposit or a 50% deposit of $2294 USD to minimize repetitive banking fees. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nITINERARY \n\n\n\nParticipants should plan to arrive in Beijing by August 27th or 28th\, a minimum of 3 to 4 days early to acclimatize from jet lag and prepare for high altitude travel. We can not risk anyone taking illness to the Lho Lungkar Gön monastery\, or through our group\, so please be careful during your travels.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDay / Date  \n\n\n\n\nSunday\, September 1st\, 2024: The first night of the tour is in a hotel in Beijing.\n\n\n\nMonday\, September 2nd\, 2024: Early in the morning we will have breakfast and then travel by car from Beijing (4.5 hours) to Wu Taishan. It is caused by a lack of Oxygen and generally occurs at heights above 2500m. AMS Symptoms include: loss of appetite\, headache\, nausea\, vomiting\, lethargy / fatigue\, dizziness\, insomnia / disturbed or poor sleep. \n\n\n\nCheck with your doctor beforehand what your body needs for traveling safely to the altitudes of Tibet and over Tibetan passes. Doctors often want to know at which altitude you are sleeping: the highest place you will be sleeping at will be at 4250 meters above sea level.  The main risk for the development of AMS is ascending too quickly. A slow ascent lets your body acclimatize to the altitude and avoids AMS. AMS occurs equally in males and females\, the old and the young\, the fit and the unfit. Don’t over-exert yourself in the first days at altitude. It is also recommended not to take a hot shower on your first day at altitude. Those who have experienced AMS on previous journeys to high altitude may be at increased risk for developing it again.  \n\n\n\n\nAvoid alcohol\, salt and any medication containing codeine (these can cause dehydration and/or depress breathing). \n\n\n\nIf drinking alcohol or coffee make sure you compensate with extra water.\n\n\n\nDrink plenty of fluids – at least 3-4 liters per day.\n\n\n\nA high carbohydrate diet will aid ventilation and efficient use of oxygen.\n\n\n\nAvoid overexertion in the initial days at altitude.\n\n\n\n\nSome drugs have also been used to prevent AMS. The most commonly used is acetazolamide (Diamox) which is normally given as one 250g tablet\, taken twice a day\, beginning at least one day before ascent above 2500m. Diamox can make you pass more urine than usual\, cause pins and needles in fingers and toes and may make carbonated drinks taste flat. It is recommended to do a trial course of the drug before going to a remote location where a severe allergic reaction could prove difficult to treat. \n\n\n\n\nPainkillers such as aspirin and paracetamol may be suggested for the headache.\n\n\n\nDiamox may be useful (250g every 8 hours)\n\n\n\nSleeping in a sitting position can aid breathing and headache while sleeping.\n\n\n\nThose with moderate or severe symptoms or whose symptoms persist despite a day or two of rest should descend until symptoms have improved.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSome Resources:  \n\n\n\n\nhttps://www.lhorigdzin.org/ontul.html\n\n\n\n\n\nLho Lungkar Gön\n\n\n\n\nSubject: Five Manjushri of Mount Wutaishan\, China  \n\n\n\nThe Spiritual Hagiography of Lho Lungkar Gon Monastery \n\n\n\nBongtrül Rinpoche  \n\n\n\n།འོག་མིན་ཐུབ་བསྟན་བཤད་སྒྲུབ་གིང་།

SUMMARY:One Year Retreat for Dedicated Practitioners Fall 2024
DESCRIPTION:With Lama Chokyi Gyaltsen (Lama Mark Webber) \n\n\n\nDates: Beginning in late September or October 2024 \n\n\n\nLocation: Galiano Island\, B.C. Canada \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLama Mark Webber (Lama Gyaltsen) and Laurel Jacobson have announced they will be going into deep retreat for one year in the fall of 2024-likely late September\, early October. Dedicated serious practitioners with a strong connection to Lama Chokyi Gyaltsen and experience in solo and/or long retreats (3 months or longer) are invited to register. Practitioners without these requirements may also be considered. Each application will be reviewed by Lama Gyaltsen for suitability.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIntensive solo retreats are remarkable and transformative experiences for practitioners who have developed the necessary capacity to undertake the rigours of deep meditation work. They require stability of both physical and psychological health. Participants must be able to practice independently without the need for frequent check ups with the Lama. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe details (housing\, cost\, logistics\, etc..) for the retreat are currently being worked out. Retreat costs are not yet clear. We always do our best to keep fees as low as possible. Some fundraising for support will be done.We are sending this notice due to the extensive planning needed for participants to make arrangements and the organizers to find suitable accommodations. The retreat will take place on Galiano Island and rental housing on the Island will need to be found. Crystal Mountain Society (CMS) and the Namgyal Yangzab Buddhist Community of Canada (NYBCC) will work together to coordinate and organize the retreat. Lama Gyaltsen has said that he will provide occasional guidance and bestow transmissions\, wongkurs and pithy instructions  from time to time\, especially during the 7-10 day settling in period. Group practices and or empowerments will generally be on auspicious days of the month.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo allow for timely planning of this auspicious retreat we are strongly encouraging all interested individuals –  including those living on Island – to submit their application to register as soon as possible. \n\n\n\nTo apply to register and for any questions please contact the Retreat Registrars at: retreats@crystalmountain.org

Trekchö\, is a form of natural and effortless Penetrative Insight\, taught within the tradition of Dzogchen — Great Completion. It requires a unification of wisdom and compassion and a profound understanding of the inseparability of the view\, meditation and conduct of a bodhisattava. Introducing and clarifying these three key points is essential and is given through direct guidance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo register and for more information please contact Shelley \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhere: \n\n\n\nEvergreen Hall\, 464 Melmore Road\, Bowen Island    \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen: \n\n\n\nSat Feb1:  Teachings at 9:30am and 7pm \n\n\n\nSun Feb 2: Teachings at 9:30 am and 4pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCost: by donation.  No one will be turned away for lack of funds. \n\n\n\nThe teacher does not get paid by any organisation.  Students are encouraged to make donations\, Dana\, according to their means.

SUMMARY:8th Annual Dzogchen Retreat at Wangapeka
DESCRIPTION:With Lama Mark Webber (Lama Yongdu Chokyi Gyaltsen – via Zoom) and Jonathan Chambers (in person)\n\n\n\nWe are thrilled to announce this opportunity for Dharma practitioners to come together for a 9-day Dzogchen retreat at Wangapeka Study and Retreat Centre in February 2025. This year’s retreat will focus on entering the discerning and infinite loving space of Amitabha Buddha\, including through Phowa practice: with teachings on the death process\, consciousness transference\, bardos and rebirth.  \n\n\n\nThough Lama Gyaltsen (Lama Mark Webber) will be in a one year retreat at Namgyal Gompa in Canada at this time\, he has kindly offered to join us for at least five Zoom sessions\, where he will give reading transmissions\, guidance and inspiration on these profound meditations. In addition\, Jonathan Chambers will lead classes and be available for personal guidance throughout the retreat. \n\n\n\nThe retreat is an ideal opportunity for established practitioners\, as well as those with a genuine interest in Buddhist Dharma and mediation\, to come together in a supportive practice community.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRETREAT FORMAT \n\n\n\nThe retreat will begin with Lama Mark Gyaltsen offering a reading transmission of Khunu Gyaltsen Rinpoche’s extraordinary text on bodhicitta\, “The Jewel Ship” (published under the title\, Vast as the Heavens\, Deep as the Sea: Verses in Praise of Bodhicitta).    \n\n\n\nThis will be followed on day 2 by a reading transmission of Lama Gyaltsen’s root text called the “Eight Confidences and A Garland of 100 Mindfulnesses Recollections”.  This text will serve throughout the retreat as a framework for enhancing our awareness\, to bring forth the inherent awareness of unconstructed mind\, inseparable with great love.  \n\n\n\nOn day three\, Lama Gyaltsen will lead participants in an ever deepening practice of Amitabha\, from the Drikung Yangzab and Orgyen Nuden Dorje traditions. Amitabha Buddha is the wisdom Buddha of Boundless Light. Our primordial mind has always been Amitabha. With the support of this retreat\, we have an extraordinary means to re-glimpse these extraordinary qualities and open them to awareness.   \n\n\n\nOn day five\, Lama Mark will introduce the Amitabha Phowa practice and give related teachings on the death process\, consciousness transference\, bardos and rebirth.  \n\n\n\nThe remainder of the retreat will incorporate daily group practice sessions of Amitabha\, which retreat participants will have the opportunity to lead.  \n\n\n\nLama Gyaltsen’s offerings will be combined with guidance throughout the retreat from Jonathan Chambers in gentle body-awareness practices (yoga\, qigong) and meditation. We will use these methods to bring a clear bright awareness of sensation within and around one’s body\, thereby linking four types of mindfulness together; attentiveness\, awareness of cause and effect (interdependence)\, interdependence of prana-mind and awareness of natural unfabricated mind. \n\n\n\nThe above format is provisional and may change as things evolve. Other teachings and guidance will be given by Lama Gyaltsen and Jonathan depending on the participants requests and requirements. The remainder of the days will be available for solo retreat time\, self-practice and discovery. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor enquiries and further information\, including retreat costs and registration details\, please refer to Wangapeka’s website: \n\n\n\n\n8th Annual Dzogchen Retreat with Lama Mark Webber

Lho Karma Ratna Rinpoche\, Lama Webber has been teaching principally the richness of the Drikung Mahamudra\, Drikung Dzogchen Yangzab and Orgyen Nuden Dorje Dzogchen traditions\, transmissions of pith texts of Padmasmabhava\, Je Gampopa\, Jamgön Ju Mipham\, Dza Patrul Rinpoche and Shantideva’s Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra a transmission from Amnyi Trulchung Rinpoche. He has a deep and long-term interest in the sciences and collaborates in marine biology research and the arts which he integrates with the teaching of Buddhism. We will start with tuning up attentiveness and recollection of our experience. The varied methods are suitable to different types of personalities.  \n\n\n\nIn Ortisei\, Lama Webber will explain and gradually give practices of different approaches culminating a Vajrasattva practice from Padmasambhava and a transmission of White Manjusri and Sarasvati by Rinchen Puntsog with a White Manjusri empowerment (from the Drikung Kagyu collection of 50 empowerments). \n\n\n\nDana for the Teacher \n\n\n\nAs is traditional\, the teachings of Buddha Dharma are offered freely – Lama Gyaltsen receives no fee. The course fee only covers the teacher’s expenses during his European Tour. (Accommodation\, food\, travelling and medicine) \n\n\n\nHowever\, there is an opportunity for participants to show their gratitude for the teachings and to help support the teacher. As a guideline\, a minimum of EUR 20.00 per class is suggested.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more information about Lama Mark Webber please see: \n\n\n\n\nNamgyal Yangzab Buddhist Community of Canada (NYBCC)\n\n\n\nNamgyal Yangzab Buddhist Community of Europe (NYBCE)\n\n\n\nDharma Centre of Canada\n\n\n\nCrystal Mountain Society\n\n\n\nQueenstown Dharma Centre
